Melatonin
Multiple clinical studies in Italy show that this substance tends to have a very favorable, statistically significant impact on survival in patients with advanced cancer. There is reason to believe that the chief reason for melatonin’s positive effect on survival in cancer patients is an immuno-stimulant effect that boosts the activity of natural killer cells and cytotoxic T-cells. This effect is indirect because melatonin actually acts on dendritic cells (specialized cells that function as antigen-presenting cells for T-cells), amplifying their capacity to stimulate natural killer cells and cytotoxic T-cells. Melatonin boosts the ability of dendritic cells to produce interleukin-2, which helps cancer-attacking immune cells reach maturity.
